How to Clean a Glass Splashback

What to use when Cleaning a Glass Splashback

Here is a list of items to get the best clean for your splashback.

Soft Cleaning Cloths

Firstly, you need to choose soft cleaning cloths. To apply the cleaning product, we recommend using a soft sponge (one which does not come with a scourer).

Microfiber Cloths

Then, for polishing the splashback, we suggest using either a lint-free cloth or a microfibre cloth.

Cleaning Products / Solutions

Since your glass splashback will come into contact with a wide variety of different dirt and substances, the best way to keep it clean is by using a variety of different cleaners.

Using glass cleaner alone won’t get rid of everything on its surface. So, try rotating your type of cleaning product each time you clean the splashback.

To get rid of all the potential mess that may crop up, we recommend using:

• Glass Cleaner
• Antibacterial Cleaner
• Oven Cleaner (for grease)
• Standard Dish Soap (on hand to quickly remove any mess, as soon as it lands on the splashback)

White vinegar is also highly effective at removing stains, achieving a streak-free finish.

When cleaning any glass surface, streaks can be annoying and leave marks. The best way to avoid streaks when cleaning your splashback is to use the cloth in circular motions. Avoid wiping the glass surface up and down, or left and right when polishing or drying.

How to Clean a Glass Splashback

1. Apply your cleaning solution, and allow it to sit on the surface of the glass for around 5 minutes

2. Place some kitchen roll or paper towels at the bottom of the splashback to collect any residue

3. Before using a cloth, remove any large clumps of grease or food from the glass

4. Use a clean, damp soft cloth, or sponge, wipe down the glass

5. Wipe in circular motions, to avoid streaks

6. For best results, polish the splashback after cleaning. Once it is dry, buff the glass using the cloth, again wiping in circular motions. 

What to Avoid when Cleaning a Glass Splashback 

The most important thing to avoid is any abrasive cleaning products – including both the cleaning solution, and the sponge itself. 

So firstly, don’t use wire wool or the scourer end of a sponge. This could permanently scratch the surface of the glass, ruining its aesthetic. 

Also, don’t use harsh abrasive cleaners, which are designed to tackle heavy soiling. These products can etch small but permanent notches in the glass. Over time, these will trap dirt in them, and make the glass appear dull or cloudy. 

If your glass splashback is painted, you need to be especially careful about the types of cleaning products that you use. Stick to the gentlest of cleaning solutions, and wherever possible, just use warm soapy water. 

We also suggest that you avoid using paper towels to wipe your splashback. This is because they can break apart into little bits, which can easily get stuck in the splashback’s side seams or any notches in the glass. 

But, if you avoid those less suitable cleaning products, you’ll find that you can achieve a flawless clean finish, with very little effort.
