Fire Rated Glass
Q: What is fire rated glass?
Fire rated glass is a specialist type of glass which acts as a barrier to stop flames and smoke from spreading should a fire break out in a building. In addition to this, the insulating qualities of particular types of fire rated glass can also provide some protection against the actual heat of a fire.
Q: Why can’t I use normal safety/toughened/laminated glass instead?
Made from toughened or laminated glass, safety glass is specially treated to withstand impact from an object or person, making it more difficult to break and providing protection against injury. In their standard form, toughened, laminate and safety glass do not provide any fire resistance.
Q: Can Stevenage Glass tell me whether I need fire rated glass or not?
If you are unsure of whether you require fire rated glass or not at your premises, we can help guide and advise you on the best solution to suit your requirements.
Q: What types of fire rated glass do you provide?
We stock a 7.2mm pyroguard clear half an hour glass and an hour Georgian clear wired glass. For any other types of fire rated glass, we can look into sourcing this for you.
Q: Do you provide the frames for the fire rated glass?
We do not provide the frames for fire rated glass, just the glass itself. We also provide replacement glass for existing frames, too.
Q: What is the biggest pane size you sell?
The pane sizes are dependent on which type of product is required as there are some restrictions. We are able to advise you on this to find the most suitable solution.
Q: Do you supply the glazing seals for fire rated glass?
We do not supply the glazing seals for fire rated glass - we only supply the glass itself.
Q: Do you offer fire rated glass for a frameless system?
It is rare that fire rated glass would be fitted as part of a frameless system. If this is something you’re interested in, we can provide information on this.
Q: Does your fire rated glass come with evidence of performance based test information and a rating?
Fire rated glass undergoes rigorous testing to ensure reliable protection; we can supply a data sheet with evidence of performance based test information and a rating, should you require it.
Q: How long will the glass provide fire protection for?
Following meticulous testing, the glass is given an official fire protection rating. The length of time the glass can provide protection against a fire typically ranges from 30 minutes upwards; this time-frame is referred to as the ‘Integrity Period’ which describes the length of time the glass has stayed in the frame and has blocked out the flames and smoke - these are factors which allow the glass to successfully pass the testing stage.
Splashbacks
Q: What if I want a print, rather than a colour?
We can source most prints, so if you see something you like, bring it in and we can make it into a splashback.
Q: What is the thickness of the splashback glass?
Splashback thickness is usually 6mm, but we can do other thicknesses e.g. 8mm.
Q: Can you see through the splashback glass?
The glass is back-painted so you cannot see through to the wall or the adhesive. So unlike stained glass, it is a completely opaque finish.
Q: Do you offer a guarantee on glass splashbacks?
We offer a 3 year guarantee against colour failure. Please note: there are no guarantees on breakages, except if the splashback was to break off its own accord.
Q: What condition does my wall need to be in?
Our glass can be used on most surfaces, so don’t worry too much about the condition of your walls.
Q: Can I cut the splashback glass myself?
If your splashback is made from toughened, heat-resistant glass, then it cannot be cut once fitted. However, if the glass has not been toughened, then it can be cut safely
Balustrades
Q: What thicknesses do you offer for balustrade glass?
The thickness of the glass will depend on the style of balustrade you choose. If you choose a framed design, with brackets, the glass can be as thin is 10mm, up to 21.5mm. If you prefer a frameless, base shoe design, the glass will need to be a minimum of 12mm to meet building regulations.
Q: What is the maximum length of the glass you offer for balustrades?
All our glass balustrades are bespoke, so the maximum length of the glass will be different for each project, depending on the design and style you have chosen. If you have a particular requirement, give us a call to discuss it, and we’ll be happy to help you find the best solution.
Q: Will you fit the balustrade for me?
We can simply supply the balustrade for you to fit yourself, or we do have options available to take care of the fitting for you. Give us a call to find out more.
Q: Do you offer tinted glass as an option?
Yes, we offer a range of finishes to provide your desired results, from tinted glass for privacy, to colour tints and decorative frosted glass.
Q: Do you offer any guarantee on glass balustrades?
All our workmanship is guaranteed for 3 years. However, this excludes glass breakages.

Q: Do you offer tinted glass for shower screens?
We offer grey or brown tinted glass in 6mm and 10mm thicknesses.
Q: Do you offer any guarantees?

Q: Do you offer delivery and fitting of shower screens?
Yes, we offer a prompt, efficient delivery and fitting service for all of our shower screens - take a look at our map to see which areas we deliver to. It’s worth noting that a delivery driver is different to a glazier, so please let us know if you require a fitting service from us when ordering and we will send the appropriate people out to you.

Our shower screens are available in a range of modern and traditional patterns, depending on your requirements. These can be custom etched to provide you with a personalised shower screen tailored to your tastes.

Q: How long will it take to supply a double glazed unit?
If the job is fairly straightforward, we can complete it within 2-3 days. If it is more complex, it can take longer. If you need to know a time, please give us a call and we will give you an accurate time frame based on your requirements and needs. Contact us for more information.
Q: Do you install UPVC windows?
We can make and supply the windows and have a fitting team who can install the double glazed units, but unfortunately we are unable to supply and fit the actual framework including the window trim. However, we are more than happy to put you in touch with a trusted Stevenage Glass installer who will be happy to help. Contact us for more information.

Q: Do you offer a measuring service for secondary double glazing?
Yes, we will visit your property and take accurate measurements of your windows if you have accepted our quote and are completely happy to proceed. If you don’t need us to fit the secondary double glazing for you, we don’t tend to come out to measure up.
Q: Will I need to replace my blinds and curtains?

Yes, our specialist team can fit the secondary double glazing unit in your home.
